Eye of the Beholder

"There is beauty all around us ...just waiting to be seen"
"She's at it again"... the words of my children as they see me approaching with my lens cap off and my tripod tucked beneath my arm. "Mom.... no more pictures ... pleeeeaaase!" and I say to my children.... "One day you will be grown, I will be old and this world will have changed in a million different ways, and the only thing I will have to remember the seasons of your youth and the wonder of these times are my photos... so I will close one eye and try to keep focus and you will smile and say cheese!"

Securities built in
an old wooden fence
Comfort sprouting
from the trees there in
And I loose myself
to those wide open spaces
And I find myself
in those wide open faces
Of childhood dreams
Paradise to my soul
There I am whole
Six years old and running free
Summer weeks
And freckled cheeks
And home beneath my toes.

"Fall of Maple"

Dried arms of maple
Reach up to embrace
They are bare now
Naked and wrinkled
Grey
Like the skin of the old
Still
Hope remains
Tangled neath’
Their knotted knuckles
Soon to wear
A shimmery coat
Bejeweled and brilliant
In the afternoon sun
Coating our hearts
Against the bleakness
Of January days
Wrinkled yet dressed
White
Like the skin of the new
And so
Hope remain
Growing neath’
The crystal coverage
Tiny embryos of green
Dreaming of spring
Awaiting their chance
To be born.

"Sun-Rise"
How beautiful this sun
Shining through my stained glass,
Tossing me hope for another tomorrow
While keeping me grounded in this day.
Steal into me and pull out my smile.
A.M. caffeine washes down my worries
Making them not so hard to swallow.
The walls around me fall silent
From the warmth that embraces their eastern side.
No creaks or groans in this early morn
Only hope and peaceful smiles.
I close my eyes and hear my girls
Singing in the memory of last nights bedtime…
“Please don’t take my sunshine away”.
Just a little off key
But perfect for me,
And the sunshine of this early day.

"Out of the Fog"
Fog of the eve
Rolls silent past breeze
Stiffening collar and
Stretching through chest
Heart upon sleeve
As sadness conceives
Life grows smaller with
The heaving of breast.
Rain drops me down
I cry without sound
Folding our love
Round’ the bend in my head
I digress of the past
Forgive you at last
And bury the bones
Of my heart with the dead.
