Eye of the Beholder

Eye of the Beholder
"There is beauty all around us ...just waiting to be seen"
"She's at it again"... the words of my children as they see me approaching with my lens cap off and my tripod tucked beneath my arm. "Mom.... no more pictures ... pleeeeaaase!" and I say to my children.... "One day you will be grown, I will be old and this world will have changed in a million different ways, and the only thing I will have to remember the seasons of your youth and the wonder of these times are my photos... so I will close one eye and try to keep focus and you will smile and say cheese!"

Saving the World.....

I shall not save the world in a day
Or right all the wrongs with a song
I shall not feed all the hungry
With one bowl of rice or one piece of bread
But I shall fill one stomach
And feed one mind
And know that there is one less hungry
For our world to bear

I shall not save the world in a day
Or right all the wrongs with a poem
I shall not offer shelter to all those in cold
Nor shall I hold all within the walls of my home
But I shall offer my time
And a blanket or coat
And know that at least they are warm
One less worry for our world to bear

I shall not save the world in a day
Or right all the wrongs with a smile
I shall not prevent all women from hurt
Or all children from abuse or utter neglect
But I can listen to cries
And not turn my head
And know that at least I have heard
One less tragedy for our world to bear

I shall not save the world in a day
Or right all the wrongs with a dream
I shall not reach out to all those who are lost
Or all those who have forgotten to breathe
But I shall at least try
I shall not just stand by
I shall feel that at least I have helped and am
One less hypocrite - -
For our world to bear.

Songs that seem to cover me

serenading all my dreams to sleep

wrapping meloncholy melody around

my shoulders

Notes that take my head in hand

Smoothing time across my brow

pushing back my hair out of

my face

Music mirroring my soul

holding me like lover's arms

dancing me around

my kitchen table

words that come to rest on smiles

kissing me with urgent need

leaving honeyed dew upon

my ears

Tunes that carry me from this day

spreading me out over the moon

laying comfort down like pillows for

my tired eyes

Songs that fill my night with thought

and serenade my dreams to sleep

wrapping meloncholy mood around

my heart.
